The Stories We Share: Creative Writing for Immigrant,
Newcomer, and Refugee Women

The Stories We Share is an empowering creative writing program by MUSE Arts, specifically designed for immigrant, newcomer, and refugee women living in Toronto. Since 2019, this program has provided a safe and inclusive space for women to share their personal stories of migration and the immigrant experience through poetry and creative writing.

Participants are guided through individual and collective writing exercises that encourage self-expression, storytelling, and community building. Their work is then compiled into The Stories We Share zine, which is published annually. The zine celebrates the voices of women who have experienced displacement, while fostering understanding and connection within the larger Toronto community.

Over the years, the program has created several publications, with contributions from over 100 women, each sharing unique and impactful stories. These zines have been an important part of the participants’ creative journey and an outlet for their voices to be heard and respected.

In the coming year, we are excited to continue this work, offering the opportunity for more immigrant, newcomer, and refugee women to participate, write, and publish their stories. The 2025-2026 edition of The Stories We Share will not only provide a platform for creative expression but also feature performances by participating poets, sharing their words with the broader community.
